I think of you.

Japanese style hotel in Kaminoyama-----Trip to Yamagata(2)

The hotel we stayed last Saturday lay in Kaminoyama hot springs,

to the west of Zao.

It was a small Japanese style hotel.

A young woman weaing kimono warmly welcomed us

at the entrance.

We received a room key and went to our room named "Zao".

After taking a short rest, we enjoyed soaking in a hot spring.

As our bodies were very cold and tired after skiing,

we felt relaxed and happy in a bath very much.

The dinner we had was a Japanese style one.

We enjoyed dishes of seasons, local food such as Yamagata-beaf

which was very soft and juicy.

We could eat rice and miso soup with many vegetables as we like.

It was welcome survice for my son, a heavy eater.

The breakfast of the next morning was also really good.

Normaly, they have buffet style or set style breakfast in a hotel.

To our surprise, we were prepared Japanese set breakfast

on each table and what's more, we enjoyed buffet style one

according to stomach size.

It was really rich.

Also there was an impressive thing in this hotel.

They had an area for experiencing Japanese traditional culture.

They put tea ceremony goods such as chawan(big teacup),

chasen(chasen is a goods for stiring tea,

made of bamboo) and maccha(powdered green tea) there.

We could enjoy it casually.

In addition, we could try to make haiku or tanka(Japanese poetry),

seeing beautiful Japanese garden

and write it on a Japanese paper.

Some of haiku and tanka were displayed on the board

as today's works.

Thus we could try three kinds of Japanese traditional culture,

tea ceremony, haiku or tanka and calligraphy(書道) together freely.

What nice ideas!

I asked a hotel lady when they had started these survices.

She said that they had started tea ceremony survice four years before

and the others just in January this year.

It seems that the value of Japanese traditional culture

is getting to be known again by Japanese recently.

I think it is desirable tendency.

Wake up, Japanese!

We have great genes for high sensibility

of enjoying our traditional culture.

They have been almost asleep.

And now, it's time to awake them!

As there were several people who enjoyed tea ceremony,

I only tried to make haiku.

Here is my haiku.

It seems that the switch of my genes has been still off.
